This is the single best keyboard I have owned since the Northgate Omnikey from the 90s. I love this thing so much I feel like I need to write a song about it.For those who don't understand the reference to the Northgate Omnikey -- it was a wonderful, metal, durable, heavy keyboard that had an old AT interface. They were obnoxiously loud but soft to the touch and I've never found its equal since my PCs all went USB.If you type quickly (and I do), write software or otherwise abuse the daylights out of your keyboard, do yourself a favor and invest in this one. There's no "click" -- linear switches, which makes sense since they're Hall Effect/configurable. You don't want the key to have a "pop" if you can configure where the key activation point is.The software is fantastic -- it works in Linux without a hitch, as well as Windows/Mac (I don't own a mac, but having slid the switch to "mac" mode by accident thinking I was turning it off, I found keys remapped accordingly). On that re-mapping -- I hated the position of the Home key because my last keyboard had it on top rather than on the bottom of the row. I remapped it. To my surprise, it remained re-mapped into each OS/PC I connect to (my old keyboard required the software to do this). The configurable Hall Effect sensors have improved my typing accuracy *dramatically*. I don't type "perfectly" (often using my ring finger for everything on the right) but I can type at the speed you speak. My slight variation on perfect typing style mean that I occasionally slip on a key I don't intend on hitting. I often bumped CAPS LOCK intending for the Left Shift. Being able to tweak the activation point of the keys eliminated the effect of this imperfect landing and has resulted in fewer times having to hit the backspace key.The keys are light to the touch, quiet, and satisfying. The ability to remap every key on the keyboard is fantastic (my last keyboard omitted the non-letter/numeric keys which meant it was impossible to add back in the "End" key -- something I use frequently). The software really shines on this thing, though. It's fast; no lag in switching modes. It's easy to understand and doesn't come with surprises. The firmware update process was a little involved, but not difficult, just surprising since everything else is of the "It Just Works(tm)" variety. The keys *hug* your fingers. They're not the flat angled squares of typical keyboards. That makes moving from key to key much less likely to result in bumping the wrong key; it really just feels nice to rest your fingers on.The lighting effects are neat and the battery seems to last forever. I'm on over a week of constant use without needing to plug-in. I really have no idea how long this thing is supposed to last between charges but it's long enough that I haven't had to think about it.It's *heavy* -- I was a little surprised by that -- most keyboards are cheap plastic crap that bend/weigh nothing. This weighs more than my laptop. That isn't a disadvantage for me -- I don't travel with it, it stays in one place. And that's the thing I hadn't really noticed that was annoying about my last keyboard -- it drifted all over the desktop when I typed. This *stays in one place* until I move it *on purpose*. If you want a little exercise, hold it in your hand with your arms extended -- makes a nice little free weight. :)It would make a great weapon in the event that someone breaks into my house while I'm working. I'd swing it around like a bat or use it as a shield for a bullet. While I'm not willing to test it, I doubt it would be damaged in the slightest. They got every little detail right except for the missing "End" key (not sure why that's so popular to do; especially given that this is a keyboard *with* a numpad, including that one extra key would have been nice). The knob is aluminum and sturdy -- it doesn't have any play when turning -- literally every other keyboard I've used this feels like a cheap plastic piece that bends when turned or pushed. I don't feel like I'm going to break this thing off when I use it; it's quite nice.Strongly recommend forking out the cash if you type a lot -- you won't regret it.
