A good helmet can help protect your head from a serious injury should a fall or accident happen, but the Lumos Matrix goes one step further - it could potentially help you to avoid that fall or accident by making your presence known to drivers and pedestrians as you make your way. My personal work commute is comprised of riding an E scooter. My carefully researched E scooter has all appropriate lighting required by our municipality, but the lighting is at the street level and it isn’t where drivers look. The Lumos Matrix Jelmet brings the visual up to eye level and you may ask how I know this - because every time I stop at an intersection the driver next to me invariably will open their window and make a comment about the fact that they liked my helmet. In saying they like the helmet it means they see the helmet and when they see the helmet they see me.The Lumos Matrix is an expensive helmet, but so are injuries - head injuries could be the ultimate expense. You can’t afford not to buy this helmet, it will help keep you safe, it’s fun, and the fact that it’s fun means you or someone you love will use it and that means all the difference - because no helmet saved anybody when it’s sitting home.JUST A FOOT NOTE - NOT TWO MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE THE PRICE HAS BEEN REDUCED BY $100. MAYBE EVERYONE SHOULD HOLD OFF ON THEIR PURCHASE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT PRICE REDUCTION. I CERTAINLY WISH I HAD.I've had this helmet since July of 2021. I rode my child around a lot in a trailer last summer and wanted to make sure we were seen at night, as the trailer blocked my rear lights. I ordered the mips version. When I received the package, it appeared as if it had been opened. The box was damaged, things weren't in bags that were still in the box, and the tissue paper inside was ripped up a bit. I decided as long as it worked and wasn't blemished I would keep it.Right off the bat however, I noticed a problem. It wouldn't hit 100% when charging. The highest it's ever displayed being charged is 92%. I'm not sure if it's charged all the way or not, but 92% has become "fully charged" when it's plugged in. The charging cable is usb on one end and a proprietary magnetic connection that only works when connected in one direction on the other. The cable itself feels rather flimsy and cheap, but I haven't had any problems with it so far. It doesn't come with a wall plug. The helmet is a bit heavier than most, but with the added safety of being seen by drivers, it is a worthy trade off, and it's not so heavy as to be uncomfortable. It comes with 2 sets of pad inserts with different thicknesses to adjust to your head size. It also features a dial retention system. There are a very limited number of animations to display that can be changed using the downloadable app, 26 or so I believe, and they've only added 1 additional animation since I bought it. (Strangely the only holiday animations are Christmas and one fireworks animation). I wish it had the ability to create your own animations to upload to the helmet, but for now it's dependent on what they provide, and the ability to write your own scrolling text. There is a button on the helmet strap to turn the helmet on and off, and to scroll through 6 animations you set in the app. Unfortunately the app requires both Bluetooth AND GPS permissions to be synched to the helmet, but once everything is set up it's not needed very often. It also provides firmware updates for the helmet. The turn signals button is the upgraded one that comes with a mount and 2 elastic bands to put the mount on your handlebars. The button itself then twists onto the mount. I'm not sure why some other reviews are complaining about having to "hold the button in your hand". It should come with the mounting supplies.I've had to deal with customer service once since having it (soon to be a 2nd time, which I'll explain in a moment), as I accidentally snapped the plastic retention system by tightening it too much when I had a beanie on under the helmet. They responded promptly and with my helmet still being under warranty, sent me a new retention system when it became available, which took about 4 weeks. I was able to replace it myself, which was tough to get out but not too hard.Unfortunately, I recently had to contact customer service again, as the button on the strap seems to have a short and no longer turns the helmet on and off. It worked intermittently for a few days before stopping completely. Assuming it will need to be sent off for repair or replacement, as there's no other way to turn it on. It can be turned off by plugging in the charger, which is what I was doing prior to the button failing completely. I'm waiting on a response to this issue.Pros:1. Front and rear turn signals provide safety.2. Available with MiPS technology which protects against rotational head injuries3. Very attention grabbing rear LED array.4. Customer service has been decent so far.5. Comes with 2 sets of pads of different thicknesses.6. Comfortable despite it's heavier weight.Cons:1. Heavier than most helmets2. Problems with the charge indicator from the beginning.3. Power button stopped working after only 8 months.4. Limited animations that seldom get updated, and are only slightly customizable by color and speed. (some less than others).5. Flimsy, proprietary USB charging cable.6. App requires location services.7. ExpensiveI love all the features however the fit and comfort level if you have a large head like myself lacks, and the flimsy small Velcro that’s holds inside padding came off the first time I tried swapping them out ..still like helmet though front light is great so are the turn signals..This is best helmet you can buyThis helmet is comfortable and the light functions are great. I was shorted the foam padding which ended up being very difficult to get from the manufacturer. Btw the thick and thin padding are supposed to be either green or red. What I received is all black.I would love to see them make a bigger size. Thats all. I wanna love it but its too small for head. The product itself was pretty much what I expected. It fits well - having 2 differently sized pads really helps with customizing the helmet to fit the shape of your head. And the lights should basically be able to replace front and rear lights on your bike.Feedback: it’s heavy. Not heavy heavy, but if it were an earring my earhole would be visibly expanded kind of heavy which I dislike. Unlike a, say, motorcycle helmet which cover your full head, it covers the the top three quarters of it and with the additional weight I feel my head torque. I might return it due to this. like myself, mountain and hybrid cyclists should take this into consideration, because your body is bent forward and it will tax your neck, shoulders, and upperback. For road cyclists, this may be a flat NO due to this reason. Also, it is NOT aerodynamic at all.Lastly, I don’t have an apple watch and frustrated about how to handle the remote. It’s such a cool feature but I’m not going to hold that thing in my hand while I’m riding on my bike! I wish it could be conveniently mounted, or even better, magnetic to have on my handle bars. I’m going to experiment with a zip tie or rubberband, and if it fails, it’s a pretty useless feature.Quality product that needs to be honed. Might return.I really like this helmet. Although, there have been a couple of issues My wife owned one previously. (It stopped charging.) I tried to replace it with a new helmet and this one had no on/off button nor would it hold a charge. I hope Lumos can address and fix whatever issues there are. This is a neat and compact helmet offering mips for extra protection incase of an accident, also the intergrated lights and turn signals are soo good, and combined with the app for even more customization you'll be visible on your bike all time of day and nightHeavy helmet, lighting was very good, great connection to the handlebar controller, but was a whining sound in my ears from the lights. Returned HelmetAfter a week, the screw cap broke. Wondering when happens after a year, LED breaks? perhaps, but not going to keep it to find out. Just going to spend on the cheaper one with no lights but has the same functionality in safety. Returned.A really good helmetLooks cool and keeps me safeIt’s a worthy purchase, I have used for a few weeks now and I have been stopped more times then I can count, not because it’s a fancy helmet but more a safety feature meaning drivers a well aware of your presence.
